Gee, could that be YOU?
According to Tiffany Field PhD, director of the Touch Research Institute
at the University of Miami's school of Medicine:
"Massage has had a positive effect on every medical
condition we've looked at."
She also states:
"Scientists are now finding that massage can reduce
blood pressure, boost the immune system, dampen harmful stress
hormones and raise mood-elevating brain chemicals such as serotonin.
And you can't beat massage for relaxation. Babies fall asleep
faster when massaged than when rocked - and they stay asleep,
rather than waking the moment Mom tiptoes away. All these factors,
put massage in the same category with proper diet and exercise
as something that helps maintain overall health"
There aren't many cases where it's not advisable to get a massage.
I've listed a few of them below. Notice that most of them are not
absolute contraindications, so if you think you fall into one of
these categories, give me a call or discuss it with your doctor
before you decide not to get a massage.
- Certain forms of cancer
- Phlebitis
- Some cardiac problems
- Some skin conditions
- Infectious diseases
